Extra crabapple jelly

Crabapple are very special fruits: they look like small apples and grow on small trees belonging to the Rosaceae family. Once turned into jam, they release a host of forest flavors and aromas ranging from apricot to quince, with hints of strawberry.

To achieve this jelly’s creamy texture, we let the fruit soak in water after being hand-picked; this process enhances their intense apple-like fragrance. It’s also a forgotten fruit, and we offer it in jelly form to preserve and rediscover it.

CuriositIES

The azerole is a fruit that was once widely cultivated and cherished. Today, it’s disappearing, but because the trees are so hardy and long-lived, some people still harvest fruit from the old trees planted by their grandparents, as is the case for us.

There are three known varieties of this ancient fruit: yellow azerole, white azerole, and red azerole. We grow the yellow variety, which is the sweetest and least acidic.

USAGE TIPS

Excellent with semi-aged cheeses.
Also perfect for spreading on bread and for filling cakes.
