extra azarole jam

Azaroles are very particular fruits: they resemble small apples and grow on small trees belonging to the Rosaceae family. As soon as they are transformed into jam, they release a multitude of woodland aromas and flavors ranging from apricot to quince, passing through strawberry.

To obtain this jam with a creamy consistency, we let the fruits macerate in water after harvesting them by hand; this process enhances their intense apple-like fragrance. It is also a forgotten fruit, and we offer it in jam with the aim of preserving it and helping it to be rediscovered.

DID YOU KNOW?

The azarole is a fruit that in the past was widely cultivated and appreciated. Today it is disappearing, but since the trees are very hardy and long-lived, some people still harvest the fruits from old trees planted by their grandparents, as in our case.

Three varieties of this ancient fruit are known: the yellow azarole, the white azarole and the red azarole. We cultivate the yellow variety, which is the sweetest and the least acidic.
