wild fennel cream

Wild fennel cream is the result of the fusion of this plant with countless virtues and our IGP extra virgin olive oil. This cream has a herbaceous green color and a pronounced flavor reminiscent of dill.

Thanks to processing carried out immediately after harvest, the aromas are perfectly preserved and, upon opening the jar, this typically Sicilian fragrance is released instantly. Wild fennel is an aromatic and medicinal plant widespread in Sicily and throughout the Mediterranean basin, known and appreciated since ancient times for its nutritional and phytotherapeutic properties. Rich in active compounds, particularly anethole, it offers significant benefits for the digestive system: it has anti-inflammatory, carminative, antispasmodic, purifying and diuretic effects. Its antioxidant and anticancer properties have also been discovered more recently.

Legend has it that it was inside the hollow stem of wild fennel that Prometheus hid a spark of the sacred flame when he stole fire from Zeus to give it to humankind. It seems that the name Marathon derives precisely from wild fennel: in Greek the name of this plant is marathon, and it grew in abundance on the plain of Marathon, so much so that it gave its name to the place and, later, to the competition.
